First Church of God in Christ
History

The First Church of God in Christ was founded and organized by Elder John C. Robinson at 3202 Taft Street, Killeen, Texas in October 1983.

The church started with four members consisting of the Pastor’s wife and their three children. Mother Bertha Williams who had just moved to Killeen from Chicago, Illinois was the first member outside of the family. Mother Williams’ Pastor, Bishop C. Moody had prophesied prior to her leaving that she would help start a church.

The First Church of God in Christ, Killeen, Texas was chartered a non-profit cooperation on April 15, 1984.

Because of the rapid growth, the church began having services at West Ward Elementary School located on Dean and Hillcrest Streets. The membership soon climbed to over fifty-five members.

In the summer of 1984, the church paid $5000.00 down and began purchasing approximately 2 acres of land in the 4100 block of Zephyr Road. This was to be the future site of the First Church of God in Christ. At this time the church began having its services at the Haynes Elementary School, 4100 Zephyr Road. During these times, Sunday school and morning worship services were held at the school. All weekly night services and auxiliary meetings were held at the pastor’s house.

The membership continued to grow. Our Trustee Board consisted of eight men and women. We had a Home and Foreign Missions department, Outreach Ministries, Sunday School with over five classes, YPWW with two classes, Bible Band, Usher Board, Hospitality, Sick Committee, Young Adult Choir, Church Choir, Sunshine Band with choir and a Brotherhood group with choir.

In May 1987, the church property at East Rancier and Massey Street was purchased. Many souls accepted Christ. The work of the ministry and the membership continued to grow and a larger facility was needed. The Lord has now blessed us to move to our newly constructed sanctuary located at 5201 Westcliff Road, Killeen, Texas.
